It's an engine sitting in a frame. That counts as an engine bay, right? No, probably not, but I wanted to post it anyway, if for no other reason than to show that not every Harley-Davidson is a giant chrome and skull bedecked phallus substitute.
While someone who is used to even intermediate size sport bikes would think it's a slug, it's very fast for a H-D with the little 72" V-twin putting out 94 horsepower.

Counts to me. Nice Sporty. Nice to see header wrap. It does work. Are those SE heads? Can't read and it won't enlarge. I assume you went with one of the SE kits?

The heads are Screaming Eagle but it wasn't a factory kit. I had it built by a retired H-D mechanic. Besides the heads (which he ported and polished) it's got Keith Black pistons, Crane cams, S&S carb, Thunderheader exhaust and a smaller drive sprocket out of an 883.
It sounds fantastic with a nice high-compression crackle to it and it does amazing burn-outs. When it was built back in 2001 I could pretty much hang with 600 crotch-rockets in a straight line, though I'm guessing a modern 600 would walk away from it easily.
The header wrap kills two birds with one stone. The exhaust, which is black, was turning white near the exhaust ports and looked terrible, so it covers that while provided the right leg with a bit of heat protection.

Thunderheader. It's tough to get much more performance from a header. I had one on my bike but it was too loud for cruising. Took it off and swapped a set of SuperTrapp on the stock header system. I ride a Tourer so comfort is my main concern. Between the mild cam, exhaust, intake and ignition and coil changes, I picked up 23 HP. 115,000 miles on her since new and still stock bore. Have you dyno'd yours?

Yes, it was 94hp. I didn't have it dynoed before the engine was built, but if I remember the dyno operator told me a stock 1200 Sporty was good for about 55hp.
Don't ride it much anymore. Tired of all the douchery of the whole H-D weekend leather gangsters thing. Course it was never a bike you wanted to ride far. Went on a 8 hour road trip with some guys once, well 4 hours one way then we spent the night and rode 4 hours back. I couldn't walk right for days.
How long did it take you to rack up those 115,000 miles?

Bought the bike new in 1992. Don't ride as much as I used to, but I try to do at least 2 decent trips a year. (1000-3000+ miles each). Next year is another Bonneville trip for sure. Anything beyond that is yet to be decided. I do use it for a daily driver for errands and things that don't require a big vehicle.
Ya know, I went way beyond that black leather, I ride a Harley, I look tough, don't I, many years ago and I do not wave at people going the other way. I been riding a fricking long time, I remember when bikes were undependable and if you were on the highway, you waved at other riders like there was some bond of being on the road with this machine that could leave you stranded. Things have changed. I will get off my soapbox now.
